In 1800, Pierre Samuel du Pont de Nemours and his sons left France to settle in the United States.
His son, Éleuthère Irénée du Pont, founded a gunpowder manufacturing company there, which would later become the industrial giant DuPont.
The family played a key role in the economic growth of the United States, particularly in the chemical, energy and armaments sectors.

Despite their success in the United States, the descendants of Pierre Samuel du Pont de Nemours remain attached to Chevannes.
From the 20th century onwards, they have financed the preservation of the local heritage.
